If your child is turning 4, they may need to have a health check. If they don't, your Family Tax Benefit (FTB) Part A rate may reduce.

What a Health Check Is

A health check is an assessment of your child's physical health. It includes their height, weight, hearing, sight and general wellbeing. It ensures your child is healthy, fit and ready to learn when they start school. Your child can have a health check from when they turn 3. A General Practitioner (GP) or community health clinic can do a health check. Some other providers can do a health check, depending on the situation. Requirements are different in each state and territory.

QLD: A health check on a child who's 3 to 3 and a half, or 4 to 5. You can find details in the Personal Health Record, sometimes called the Red Book. A general health check on your child after they turn 3, provided by your local GP or community health clinic.

What you need to do

  • Arrange a health check for your child

  • This is an age appropriate health check as outlined in the Health check table.

  • To arrange a health check, talk to your GP, health professional or staff at your community health clinic.

  • Tell us your child has had a health check

  • You'll need to do this before your child's fifth birthday.

  • You can do this with the Healthy Start for School review using your Centrelink online account through myGov. We'll send a notification to your online account that you need to complete an update.

  • If you can't complete the Healthy Start for School review for your child online, call us on the Families line as soon as possible.

  • When you call us, you may be offered to update the health check information through our Smart IVR (Interactive Voice Response). If you can't use the Smart IVR, wait to speak to a service officer and let them know your child has had a health check.

  • We'll only record the date your child had the health check. We don't record the details of the check.

Message from the Educational Leader

Dear Centre Families,

A warm welcome to our Kidi Kingdom community! We are very excited to have you join our Kidi Kingdom family. In this edition, we share our valuable insights, activities and highlights of our educational and care program. Together, let's celebrate the joy of children's growth and their learning journey.

Finishing off 2023 with a big month in December, we had our Kindergarten Graduation and celebrated Christmas with our centre Christmas Party where we had a fun filled afternoon tea with games and activities. The children had so much fun.

We wish to advise our families that from the 1st February 2024 all centres / services approved under the National Law will be required to use the updated version V2.0 of the Early Learning Framework. Kidi Kingdom Child Care Centre Hillcrest has been transitioning to this new version since January 2024 and has been successful in planning, implementing, embedding key changes in our educational program and practices. These included a more in depth focus on our transitions, theoretical approaches, critical reflection that drives improvement, inclusion and the addition of three new principles: The acknowledgment and teaching of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Perspectives, actively practicing and endorsing Sustainability and as educators, focusing on Collaborative leadership and teamwork.

Please see the link below for more information on the updated framework. https://www.acecqa.gov.au/media/35771

As the Educational Leader, I am committed to ensuring our programs and learning experiences are of the highest quality and the children are gaining and developing lifelong skills. I will always collaborate with our amazing educators and provide curriculum corrections and guidance. We look forward to reaching new goals with our educators for 2024.

Message from the Early Learners Room

Dear Families of the Early Learners Room,

I would like to welcome our new friends Oakley, Kojo, Lily.M, Lily.B, Adam and Sean to the Early Learners family. It is always wonderful to see friendships growing and children thriving together!

It is so exciting to see children working towards their milestones! Every milestone reached is a testament to their growth and development. In December, January and February the children participated in a lot of different events. Participating in various events can be such a rich and rewarding experience for children! It helps them learn and grow in so many ways.

In December, we participated in celebrating Christmas. Celebrating Christmas is a joyous occasion for everyone! It is a time filled with warmth, joy, and togetherness. In January, we shared experiences in learning about basic self-help skills that are so important for children's development and independence!

In February, learning about the different animals of the world sounds like a fascinating and engaging topic!

That's a thoughtful reminder! Appropriate clothing and footwear are essential to keep the children comfortable and safe during outdoor activities.

Kind Regards, Miss Emily and Miss Alexis - Early Learners Room Educators.

Message from the Junior Early Years Room

Dear Families of the Junior Early Years Room,

Over the month of December, the children were engaged in Christmas activities and setting up the room. We also revised our colours, shapes and name recognition over the course of the month. Some of our children transitioned into the Early Years room for the move in January. These children did really well during their transition.

I would like to welcome myself Miss Kylie, Miss Verity and Miss Rowena into the room. Our commitment to providing a nurturing environment for children's growth and development will be admirable. Creating such an environment can have a lasting impact on their lives.

It's great to see that the transition of your new friends from the Early Learners room into our room went smoothly!

We are focusing on routine transitions and learning colours and shapes ensuring a fun and educational plan! Consistency in routines can help children feel secure, and learning colours and shapes is a foundational skill.

We are dreating a "being, belonging and becoming" wall with photos and meaningful information about the children that can help create a sense of identity and belonging.

Kind Regards, Ms Kylie, Miss Rowena and Miss Verity - Junior Early Years Educators.

Message from the Early Years Room

Dear Families of the Early Years Room,

My name is Miss Tia, and I am the Lead Educator in the Early Years Room. I would also like to introduce my Assistant Educators who will be working alongside me this year. They are Miss Regina, Miss Carmela, and Miss Wor.

In December, the children participated in fun and festive activities, creativity and holiday spirit shine through in their creations. Exploring Christmas traditions, reading books, and creating artwork are wonderful ways to celebrate the holiday season!

In January, we focused on children transitioning smoothly into the Early Years room and feeling comfortable in their new environment. Learning about different animals, including prehistoric dinosaurs, was fascinating for the children. Discovering prehistoric dinosaurs sparked the children's curiosity and imagination.

In February, we will be continuing to focus on colours, numbers, alphabet, and shapes while also exploring different types of animals from around the world will provide a rich and varied learning experience for the children.

Kind Regards, Miss Tia, Ms Regina, Ms Carmela and Ms Wor Early - Years Room Educators.

Message from the Kindergarten Room

Dear Families of the Kindergarten Room,

In December, we shared the holiday season. It was heartwarming to see families sharing joy and creating a sense of community during the holiday season. Exploring the five senses is such a rich and engaging theme for young learners!. Using a sensory provocation table must have provided a hands-on and interactive way for them to learn about their senses.

Congratulations on a successful Kindergarten graduation! It was a special and memorable occasion for everyone involved. In January, we explored our new learning theme of 'Identity'. We have created a new sign-in area where we identify and write our names. We also enjoyed exploring the theme of identity as we completed an 'all about me' sheet, created a collage of ourselves and created a representation of ourselves using playdough and art materials.

In February, we will start exploring our 'Letter of the week', introduced Lola, our dog plush toy who will go on adventures with us during the weekend and continue our show and tell. Learning to identify, spell, and write their names is a crucial skill for young learners! It helps them develop literacy skills and a sense of identity.

Just a few reminders:

  • Please ensure your child wears sun safe clothing each day.

  • Please encourage your child to find their name and pop it into the frame and sign in on arrival. The progress so far has been amazing to see!

  • Please bring or email a family photo for our family tree display.

Thank you so much for all your support. We look forward to an amazing year ahead.

Kind Regards, Miss Aimee and Miss Kara - Kindergarten Teachers.
