Healthy Start for School

IMPORTANT PARENT INFORMATION - PLEASE READ BELOW

If your child is turning 4, they may need to have a health check. If they don't, your Family Tax Benefit (FTB) Part A rate may reduce.

What a Health Check Is

A health check is an assessment of your child's physical health. It includes their height, weight, hearing, sight and general wellbeing. It ensures your child is healthy, fit and ready to learn when they start school. Your child can have a health check from when they turn 3. A General Practitioner (GP) or community health clinic can do a health check. Some other providers can do a health check, depending on the situation. Requirements are different in each state and territory.

QLD: A health check on a child who's 3 to 3 and a half, or 4 to 5. You can find details in the Personal Health Record, sometimes called the Red Book. A general health check on your child after they turn 3, provided by your local GP or community health clinic.

What you need to do

  • Arrange a health check for your child

  • This is an age appropriate health check as outlined in the Health check table.

  • To arrange a health check, talk to your GP, health professional or staff at your community health clinic.

  • Tell us your child has had a health check

  • You'll need to do this before your child's fifth birthday.

  • You can do this with the Healthy Start for School review using your Centrelink online account through myGov. We'll send a notification to your online account that you need to complete an update.

  • If you can't complete the Healthy Start for School review for your child online, call us on the Families line as soon as possible.

  • When you call us, you may be offered to update the health check information through our Smart IVR (Interactive Voice Response). If you can't use the Smart IVR, wait to speak to a service officer and let them know your child has had a health check.

  • We'll only record the date your child had the health check. We don't record the details of the check.

Message from the Early Learners Room

Dear Families of the Early Learners Room.

Welcome to all existing and new families in our Early Learner's Room!

We hope that everyone has settled well into the Early Learners room. Your feedback regarding the room, transitions, and care for your family and children is always welcome. At Kidi Kingdom Child Care Coomera, we are dedicated to providing and advocating for all children with respect and care at the forefront of our curriculum, experiences, and learning journeys.

The start of the year has been remarkable for us, as we established a peaceful and calming environment for the children who have newly enrolled. This allowed the babies and families to bond with their primary educators as we quickly established routines.

In January, we delved into the work of Theorist Abraham Maslow, focusing on his 'Hierarchy of Needs', which breaks down into five stages of growth:

  • Physiological needs: Air, water, food, clothing, and shelter for survival.

  • Safety needs: Trust in the environment, protection, stability, and order.

  • Love and belonging needs: Family affection, relationships, and peer connections.

  • Esteem needs: Self-esteem, confidence, achievement, responsibility, mastery, independence, respect of others and respect by others.

  • Self-actualization needs: Realising personal potential, creativity, spontaneity, self-fulfilment, lack of prejudice, morality, and acceptance of facts, seeking personal growth and problem-solving.

Throughout January, children and educators began their journeys, some continuing from last year and some new to the centre and the idea of childcare. We learned names, cues, routines, bottle and meal times, and explored a new space to support children while in care. We worked closely with families to establish routines similar to those at home. Most importantly, children and families explored, settled, and showed belonging in a new and safe space for them.

To strengthen a sense of belonging, we created a beautiful display named "The Wall of Fame" showcasing photos of all the children engaging in play and having fun at Kidi Kingdom Child Care Coomera. Miss Simone and I have also created an art gallery wall to showcase the amazing art pieces the babies create during planned activities.

Kind Regards, Miss Amie and Miss Simone - Early Learners Educators.

Message from the Junior Early Years Room

Dear Families of the Junior Early Years Room.

Welcome to the Junior Early Years Room for 2024!

We are thrilled about the adventures that 2024 holds for us! In the Junior Early Learners room, we aim to provide the best learning experiences for our children. Family input is crucial to us to ensure we deliver a meaningful learning program. If you have any ideas or topics you'd like us to explore this semester, please approach our primary educators of the room: Miss Courtney, Miss Sapphire, and Miss Amber.

We have already participated in several special events this year, including New Year's celebrations, Mind Body and Wellness Day, Australia Day, Waitangi Day, Chinese New Year and Valentine's Day. The children have been engaged in themed activities and planned lessons to help them develop an understanding and appreciation of these special events in our diverse community.

Over the next few months, we will focus on upcoming cultural events and introduce simple self-help skill strategies in the children's classroom environment to build a sense of belonging and encourage independence.

Our learning goals for the month include developing recognition of simple shapes, colours, and counting from 1-5.

Overall, the children have adjusted well to their new classroom environment. Thank you for a wonderful start to 2024!

Kind Regards, Miss Courtney, Miss Sapphire and Miss Amber - Junior Early Years Educators.

Message from the Senior Early Years Room

Dear Families of the Senior Early Years Room.

Welcome to the Senior Early Years Summer Newsletter!

Firstly, I would like to extend a warm welcome to everyone to the new Senior Early Years Room. Miss Astrid and Miss Mia, we welcome all our new and existing families!

We have had a fantastic few months in the Senior Early Year's room. This year, we started fresh with a brand new classroom and all the children have been adapting to the changes and building relationships with their peers and educators. We've had so much fun setting up the new classroom based on age appropriate areas of interest and learning about new themes led by the children's current interests.

At the beginning of January, inspired by the blank canvas of our new room, we focused on filling our walls with beautiful displays of the children's artwork and fun learning resources. We also celebrated New Year's Day and Australia Day, exploring experiences to enhance the children's understanding of these special events.

February brought Waitangi Day, Chinese New Year and Valentine's Day! These cultural events were especially meaningful this year as we had some amazing input from our Maori and Chinese families and educators in our centre. The children are beginning to learn the importance of diversity in their community.

In addition, we engaged in lots of intentional teaching through shapes, numbers, sensory activities, gardening and many more engaging activities. Last month, the children showed great interest in animals, so we have decided to explore "Animals Around the World" this month. We are starting this theme with two questions: "What is your favourite animal?" and "Do you have an animal friend at home?".

For children's current learning, I have attached an article link below for families to read during your free time.

Message from the Kindergarten Room

Dear Families of the Kindergarten Room.

Welcome to a vibrant world of celebration in our Kindergarten room! Each day is a festival and every moment is a cause for joy. Our Christmas celebrations were truly magical! The children had a blast creating their own snowman using a mix of hair conditioner and baking soda, experiencing giggles of glee with the squishy texture.

Our classroom transformed into a mini North Pole, complete with a flour snowman, wind-up elves, and a charming cityscape. The Christmas party was filled with laughter, joy and the true spirit of the season.

As we welcomed 2024, our little party goers donned their self made party hats and noisemakers, celebrating the New Year with excitement and dreams for the year ahead. Australia Day saw our young artists creating their own flags, exploring the rich culture and traditions of our land.

Waitangi Day offered a fascinating peek into the culture of New Zealand, with Maori art projects and traditional stories enriching our understanding. Chinese New Year was a grand celebration, with dragon crafts and a refreshing watermelon and lime welcome drink. Valentine's Day was a heartwarming celebration of love and kindness, with handmade cards and special storytime sessions.

We're excited for the year ahead, filled with more learning, fun and growth. If you have any questions or suggestions, we are here to listen!

Kind Regards, Ms Harman and Ms Katie - Kindergarten Teachers.

Message from the School Care Room

Dear Families of the School Care Room.

This term with the school care children has been amazing. The children have had more opportunities to decide on what they would like to do based on their strengths, interests and needs. During our Vacation Care Program, the children had fun with Miss Courtney and Miss Amber. We went on some thrilling excursions to the Movies, Bowling, Mini Golf and Nature parks in our community.

The school children have been interested in coming up with plays and real life scenarios to explore during their time at Kidi Kingdom Child Care Coomera. We recently designed a restaurant called "Kidi Kingdom Bistro". The school children enjoyed developing their own menu and distributing roles amongst each other such as chefs, waiters, reception and managers. It has been great to see the school children encouraging the younger children to participate as customers during these experiences. This is a great way to maintain relationships with all children of all ages.

Kind Regards, Ms Courtney - School Care Educator.
